Damien McCrory has signed a new one-year contract at Plymouth despite not playing a game for the Pilgrims last season.
The 19-year-old was loaned out to League Two side Port Vale for two months before Christmas and was awarded a new deal off the back of his performances at Vale Park.
The Irishman is at home at both left-back and left-wing and hopes to impress Pilgrims manager Paul Sturrock's during pre-season.
McCrory signed his first professional contract last summer and Sturrock insists the youngster highlights the positives of sending a player out on loan.
"Damien went out on loan last season and he did very, very well," he told the club's official website.
"He played at left-back and wide left and won rave reviews.
"That shows the benefit of putting players out on loan. He's now got another year to show me that he merits being given a further opportunity."
