Birmingham are lining up a move for Ecuador defender Giovanny Espinoza, skysports.com understands.
Blues boss Alex McLeish is busy planning for life back in the Premier League next season and he has made defensive reinforcements his top priority.
Espinoza, who plies his trade for Barcelona Sporting Club in his native Ecuador, is thought to be among McLeish's targets.
The 32-year-old has a wealth of experience having played in two World Cups for Ecuador and won over 80 caps for his country.
Espinoza has played in Europe before with Dutch side Vitesse Arnhem and he is thought to be interested in making the move to St Andrews.
