Derby County manager Nigel Clough admits Burton Albion defender Jake Buxton could be a summer transfer target.

Clough signed Buxton for Burton last summer from Mansfield Town and the centre-half has impressed en route to the club securing promotion to the Football League.

Former Burton boss Clough is drawing up a list of potential signings for next season and has hinted Buxton will be considered.

Highlighting the progress Buxton's old Mansfield team-mate Alex Baptiste has made at Blackpool, Clough believes the 24-year-old could be capable of playing in the Championship.

"Jake played at the back at Mansfield with Alex Baptiste, who is now a regular in Blackpool's side in the Championship," Clough told the Derby Evening Telegraph.

"He (Baptiste) went from the Conference and there are still one or two players who can achieve that. So, when we sit down and go through our list, you never know."

Meanwhile, former Derby players Mike Forsyth and Darran Wassall have returned to the club to take up roles with the Academy.
