Luke Varney is aiming to use his loan spell at Sheffield Wednesday to prove he has a long-term future at Derby County.
The striker is currently on a month's loan with the Owls, having struggled to hit form since joining Derby from Charlton in November.
He had scored just once in nine appearances before his move to Hillsborough and is eager to play a role for Owls boss Brian Laws.
However, Varney's long-term aim is to show Derby manager Nigel Clough that he can make an impact at Pride Park.
"I have had a tough time since Nigel Clough took over at Derby and it's just nice to be playing again," said Varney in the Daily Express.
"Since he came in I have picked up an injury and had a couple of bouts of illness, so it hasn't really happened for me.
"But the manager has told me I am still in his plans for next season, so I will just try to get a few more games under my belt here and see what happens.
"I still have a long contract at Derby and want to do well there."
