Birmingham manager Alex McLeish expects defender Stephen Carr to sign an extended deal at St Andrew's before the end of the week.

The former Tottenham and Newcastle full-back, 32, was tempted out of retirement to pen a one-month deal with the Championship promotion-chasing Blues towards the end of February.

And the 44-time Republic of Ireland international has impressed McLeish sufficiently to be offered fresh terms until the end of the season.

"Stephen's experience is terrific, but not only that, his quality on the ball has been a big plus for us," said McLeish in the Birmingham Mail.

"A new deal is in the offing and something will be tied up in the next couple of days."
