Blues sign Pompey defender on three month loan

Birmingham City have signed Djimi Traore from Portsmouth on a three-month emergency loan deal. The defender has not featured for Pompey all season and his last appearance for the club came just over a year ago. The Mali international first arrived in England in 1999 when he joined Liverpool. After a 140 appearances for the Reds he joined Charlton for £2million in 2006. After making just 12 appearances in just under five months at The Valley the 28-year-old was on the move again, this time to Fratton Park for £1million. The full-back who can also play centre-half has spent the last two years on the South Coast playing 15 times. In order to gain more game time Traore was loaned to Rennes in France for the second half of last season. On his return he failed to make an impact on the first team squad and will be hoping to help push Alex McLeish's side to promotion.
