Motherwell boss Mark McGhee fears he has missed out on a loan deal for Derby County winger Gary Teale.
McGhee was hoping to bring Teale to Fir Park ahead of the close of the transfer window, but does not expect success in his bid.
Teale has started the last four games for the Rams after Nigel Clough replaced Paul Jewell as manager at Pride Park.
And McGhee concedes that Teale's return to form is unlikely to see the former Wigan wide man make the move to the SPL.
"We had hoped we could bring him here," said McGhee, who has seen striker Chris Porter agree a switch to Derby.
"But he was man of the match against Coventry. There's still going to be discussions between him and Nigel.
"But it seems he is back in favour. It looks unlikely that he will come here."
