Benfica believe deal for defender is close

Benfica have declared that it is now up to Blackburn to agree a deal with Marco Zoro after the defender was given permission to speak with the Premier League club. The 25-year-old has fallen down the pecking order at Benfica and does not figure in the long-term plans of coach Quique Sanchez Flores. Zoro, who was also linked with Bolton earlier in January, has already spent time training with Blackburn. Benfica's communications director Joao Gabriel has now stressed that the Portuguese club will not stand in the way of a possible transfer. "The only thing missing now is an agreement between Blackburn and Zoro," said Gabriel. "Our club have nothing to oppose against his possible move to Blackburn. Our manager has consented Zoro to negotiate with them. "Whether there is a deal or not, we will make it public at an appropriate moment. "Between both clubs there is nothing wrong. It is up to the player and Blackburn to deal."
