Bristol City capture defender until end of the season

Bristol City manager Gary Johnson has confirmed that defender Izzy Iriekpen has joined the club until the end of the season. The former West Ham youngster was released by Scunthorpe United earlier this month after falling out with manager Nigel Adkins. The 25-year-old captained the Iron and featured 16 times in League One this term with his last appearance coming on 13th December. The defender has impressed while on trial and despite not having played in over a month Johnson was pleasantly surprised by his fitness levels in a reserve outing against Plymouth. "He has done ok and will be signing for us in the morning," the City boss told skysports.com. "He has agreed a deal with us until the end of the season, so he has impressed us enough for us to include him in our squad until the end of the season."

Injury blow

Meanwhile, the Robins have learned that midfielder Marvin Elliott will be ruled out for five to six weeks after injuring his groin in Tuesday's win over Plymouth. "It is a groin strain and it is a big blow for both us and him because he doesn't like being on the treatment table," Johnson added. "He enjoys playing football and wants to be a part of it, so it is sad news for both us as a team and him as a person. "Hopefully the five or six weeks will go quickly for him and he will be back available for our last 10 games or so."
