Barnsley have opted out of a move to sign Chesterfield's Jamie Ward after failing to agree terms with the striker.
The Tykes saw a £400,000 bid for the 22-year-old accepted on Wednesday, with that offer also including extra fees and a sell-on clause.
Ward appeared all set to undergo a medical at Oakwell and finalise the details of his switch to the Championship, only to then see negotiations break down.
A statement on Barnsley's official website said: "Barnsley can confirm that the deal to bring Jamie Ward to Oakwell has been called off this morning.
"The Reds have been in discussions with Jamie's representatives and have failed to agree terms. Barnsley manager Simon Davey will now move on to other targets."
