Chesterfield have received an undisclosed bid from Barnsley for striker Jamie Ward.
Out of contract in the summer, the 22-year-old rejected the Spireites' offer of a new deal at the end of last year.
His 16 goals in all competitions this season have brought Ward to the attention of at least one other Championship club.
However, should Chesterfield sell the diminutive forward they must pay his former club Torquay 25 per cent of the fee. Ward joined Chesterfield from the Devon club in a £100,000 deal in January 2007.
Barnsley are looking for a striker to replace Iain Hume who is currently recovering from a fractured skull.
