Port Vale are lining up a swoop for former player Chris Birchall from Coventry.
Birchall is well down the pecking order at the Ricoh Arena and has yet to make a first-team appearance this season.
The 24-year-old is keen on a move away from Coventry as he looks to get his career back on track and Port Vale have enquired about his availability.
Vale chairman Bill Bratt has confirmed the club will step up their efforts to try and sign Birchall.
"He is a wide midfield player which we need. We are looking at everybody and Chris is in our remit," Bratt told The Sentinel.
"So when he comes back from playing for Trinidad and Tobago we will probably follow it up."
