Striker set to replace injured Ormerod

Oldham are closing in on the signing of Doncaster striker Darren Byfield, skysports.com understands. Byfield is keen on a move away from Doncaster after failing to establish himself at the Keepmoat Stadium. The 32-year-old only joined Doncaster in the summer after leaving Bristol City, but he has struggled to make an impact for Sean O' Driscoll's side. Latics boss John Sheridan has lined up a move for Byfield as he looks to bolster his attacking options in a bid to win promotion. Byfield is expected to initially join on loan with a view to a permanent deal. Meanwhile, Brett Ormerod has been forced to cut short his loan stay at Boundary Park due to injury. The former Blackpool and Southampton striker has been forced to return to Preston after breaking his toe in training.
