Laws happy to secure futures of Wood and Spurr

Sheffield Wednesday defenders Richard Wood and Tommy Spurr have both signed new contracts. The youngsters have both been rewarded with new two-year deals after becoming a fixture in Brian Laws' side. Wood had a transfer request turned down at the start of the season, but has now pledged his future to the club. Owls boss Laws admits he was keen to ensure that Wood and Spurr were both tied to long-term deals at Hillsborough.

Going nowhere

"Richard Wood and Tommy Spurr have had their contracts extended, that's an option the club had and we have taken control of that situation," Laws told the club's official website. "They both still have a couple of years to go. "We're looking for the futures of Richard and Tommy and Mark Beevers to be secured for as long as possible. "So there's no need to worry, they are going nowhere, they are contracted to the football club." Meanwhile, Laws has allowed youngster Luke Boden, who can play in midfield or up front, to join non-league side Rushden & Diamonds on loan.
