Benjani and Vassell return for reserves

Manchester City strikers Benjani Mwaruwari and Darius Vassell could be in contention to face FC Twente in the Uefa Cup. Benjani has not played for City this term due to a thigh injury, while Vassell has been sidelined since hurting his knee in a pre-season friendly with AC Milan. However, both players featured for 45 minutes for City's reserves on Monday night, with Benjani scoring the decisive goal in a 2-1 win over Liverpool. Michael Ball also appeared in the game and City boss Mark Hughes is happy to have the trio close to full fitness. And, with City short on experienced attacking options, Hughes admits Benjani and Vassell could come into his thoughts for Thursday's European encounter.

Good news

"It's good news that Darius, Benjani and Michael all came through OK," Hughes told the club's official website. "By all accounts they all did very well, they're unscathed and we don't expect any adverse reactions." With regards to playing on Thursday, Hughes added: "We'll see. It's important that they got some game-time under their belts, but they impressed and Benji scored into the bargain. "They will come into the equation, we've got young strikers here and at times we have lacked a little bit of experience up front, so it will be good to welcome them back."
