Town boss suggests midfielder still has a role to play

Ipswich Town manager Jim Magilton has confirmed Charlton Athletic have shown an interest in Ivan Campo. Reports have linked Spanish midfielder Campo with a swap deal involving Charlton's Darren Ambrose, who started his career at Portman Road. Ambrose has recently admitted he would be open to rejoining his first club, while Magilton is keeping tabs on his situation. And, following rumours of Charlton's interest in Campo, Magilton confirmed his Addicks counterpart Alan Pardew had made an enquiry.

Massive influence

"Charlton manager Alan Pardew did ask me about Ivan after Tuesday's game having been impressed with his performance in our match at Charlton earlier this month," Magilton tod the East Anglian Daily Times. "But that is as far as it went and I have nothing else to report. If he wants to take it any further then he only has to pick the phone up and speak to me. "Ivan may not be in the team at the moment, but he is a massive influence at this football club and I know the importance of him. "I have gone on record already to say that Darren (Ambrose) is a player that I am keeping tabs on, but at the moment he is in the Charlton team and I expect him to be so again tomorrow." Campo only signed a two-year contract at Ipswich in August after leaving Bolton Wanderers and he has made eight appearances to date.
