Mikele Leigertwood has seen his appeal against a midweek dismissal rejected by the Football Association.
The Queens Park Rangers midfielder was given his marching orders during a 1-0 win over Birmingham on Tuesday.
Leigertwood felt the decision was harsh, but the FA have deemed the punishment handed out by the match officials to be acceptable.
As a result of the failed appeal, the 25-year-old has seen his suspension increased from the mandatory three games to four.
The ban begins immediately, ruling him out of a weekend fixture at Ipswich, as well as Championship dates with Burnley and Cardiff.
He will also be unavailable for a glamorous Carling Cup contest with reigning Premier League champions Manchester United.
