Defender pens four-year deal

Sean St Ledger has penned a new four-year contract with Championship outfit Preston. The deal will help keep the influential defender at Deepdale until at least the summer of 2012. St Ledger's current contract was due to expire at the end of the season, although the club did have an option for a 12-month extension. However, they ultimately opted to discuss entirely new terms in order to resolve the player's long-term future.

Chuffed

The 23-year-old has been a virtual ever-present since signing from Peterborough in 2006 and is delighted to be able to put any issues surrounding the length of his stay at the club to rest. "I always thought that something would get sorted," he told the club's official website. "The chairman has worked really hard, as has the manager (Alan Irvine) to get it sorted early. "I am really chuffed that I have signed a contract, got a new deal and hopefully now I will try and keep playing well, take us up the table and try and get promotion."
