Out-of-favour Ertl is happy to play waiting game

Austrian defender Johannes Ertl is happy to bide his time as he waits to make his league bow for Crystal Palace. The Austria international has made just one appearance so far this season since his summer move from Austria Vienna - and that was in the Eagles' 4-0 Carling Cup defeat at Leeds last month. Manager Neil Warnock has preferred Danny Butterfield, Matt Lawrence, Paddy McCarthy and Clint Hill in defence, while Ertl is also in contention with Jose Fonte and Lee Hills. But the 25-year-old, who has won seven caps for Austria, refuses to get downhearted as he aims to earn regular first-team action.

Positive

"If you let your head drop it will never get better," Ertl told the Croydon Advertiser. "You have to work as hard as you can, keep your body fit and then see what happens. "It's important for me to remain positive all the time because we all have a role to play at the club."
