Defender joins from Nancy on four-year deal

Nancy defender Sebastien Puygrenier has opted to join St Etienne on a four-year deal. The 26-year-old was a target for a number of other clubs including Rennes and Zenit St Petersburg, and he admits it was tempting to make the move to Russia. However, he has decided on St Etienne and completed his transfer for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of 5million euros (£3.9million). "On a financial level the Russian offer was of course very attractive," Puygrenier told L'Equipe. "I spent two days there and it was nice but I don't want to play there. "I have made my choice. I have a big desire to wear the green shirt of St Etienne."
