Bristol City boss Gary Johnson has reassured Steve Brooker and Scott Murray that they have a role to play this season.
Both players have been linked with moves away from Ashton Gate, but Johnson is not planning to offload the experienced duo.
Brooker spent a spell on loan at Cheltenham Town last season after recovering from a serious injury, while Murray started only four matches in the Championship.
However, Johnson believes the two players could have an impact in his plans, both on and off the pitch.
"You can never say never with a player, and there was a lot of interest in Steve Brooker when we loaned him out. However, we did that to get him fit to come back to us," Johnson told the club's official website.
"He has started pre-season training very well. Steve is part of our squad and that is where we want him to be.
"As for Scott Murray, everyone has the same chance in pre-season and when it comes to the real stuff I won't pick teams on birth certificates.
"We also want Scott around at the club anyway. He is good enough to be a player in the squad and he is a big player for us on and off the field."
