Swede makes remarkable comeback
Swedish defender Michael Svensson was set to cap a remarkable comeback on Saturday with his first match for Southampton for almost three years.
The centre-half was named in the team to play against Winchester City in the Saints' pre-season preparations.
After a series of knee problems, he underwent surgery 14 months ago and has slowly built up his fitness to earn his first match action since November 2005.
The player, who has been out of contract for a year, admits it is his last chance.
Absolutely determined
He said: "This is my last chance and I want the very best opportunity to get back. I am absolutely determined to get through it.
"I know some players might have retired by now but I am not the type to give up. I will fight all the way because I know I would only regret it later if I did not give it everything."
