Mick McCarthy remains hopeful that Michael Gray will sign a new contract at Wolves.
The experienced full-back is currently out of contract, but has returned for pre-season training with the Championship club.
He made 37 appearances last season after joining from Blackburn Rovers and Wolves boss McCarthy is keen for the former England international to stay.
"We're still waiting to see what happens, but nothing's changed in that we'd be delighted to have Michael around the place," McCarthy told the club's official website.
"He's a fantastic leader and character around the place and is still a very good player.
"What we tend to forget is that he's only eight weeks older than when he left here at the end of the season.
"He was flying around like a kid last season and he's come back as fit as ever, so I'd like to keep him
"I haven't really had the opportunity to have a word with him in my office. But he has come back here to train, so I think he wants to be here."
