Defender signs two-year deal to stay at Carrow Road

Gary Doherty has ended doubts about his future by signing a new two-year contract at Norwich City. The defender's Carrow Road contract had expired, but the Republic of Ireland international has agreed to stay with the Championship club. Norwich boss Glenn Roeder had been keen for Doherty to accept an extension before the players returned for pre-season training. Doherty, who had been linked with a switch to Major League Soccer side San Jose Earthquakes, had admitted at the end of the last campaign that he was 'not actively looking to move'. With his new contract secured, the 28-year-old will now look to add to the 147 appearances he has made for the Canaries since joining from Tottenham Hotspur four years ago.
