Midfielder offered new deal at the Keepmoat Stadium

Doncaster midfielder Mark Wilson is expected to put pen-to-paper on a new contract this week. The 29-year-old missed the last two months of the season with a hernia problem, but remains an integral part of Sean O'Driscoll's plans at the Keepmoat Stadium. Wilson had been a regular for Rovers during the first half of the 2007/08 campaign but struggled to force his way back into contention after losing his place in the side to Paul Green. However, he is still held in high regard by the Rovers coaching staff and assistant manager Richard O'Kelly is hoping that the player will decide to stay. "Everything has been agreed and we are hopeful that it will be all tied up in the next day or so," O'Kelly told The Star.

Intelligent

"Mark is a fantastic professional and in addition to what he did out on the field, the influence he also has on the other players is really good. "He's played at the top level with Manchester United and Middlesbrough and he brings a lot of good things to the club. "He is an intelligent footballer, he knows a lot about the game and he has a good insight into what is going on. "He understands the fitness side of the game and the nutrition and sports science and is very interested in all that sort of thing. "Mark has gone on record as saying that he wants to get into coaching and, possibly, management in the future and he is certainly on the way to do that sort of thing in a few years' time. "Mark is one of those players who could play well into his thirties. He has got a good technique and he looks after himself so he has a good chance of carrying on playing for a few years yet."
