Sky Blues defender told to prove fitness

Coventry defender David McNamee has been informed that he will not be offered a new contract until he has proved his fitness. The Scottish full-back has endured ill-fortune with injuries since moving to the Sky Blues in the summer of 2006 from Livingston. Restricted to just 28 league appearances at the Ricoh Arena, the 27-year-old will be assessed in the final year of his existing deal, before a decision is made regarding fresh terms.

Discussions

"I will be talking to David's agent and discussing the situation with him," said City boss Chris Coleman. "His ability is not an issue but what is is his injury problem which kept him out for five or six months last season. "Whether we can get him back to play the pre-season and have a look at him, we will have to see. "But he knows he has to prove his fitness because we have to be 100 per cent certain that he will stay fit. That is the only question mark at the moment."
