Portugal goalkeeper shrugs off criticism

Portugal goalkeeper Ricardo has insisted he is not concerned about being dropped at Euro 2008. Ricardo has been the first-choice goalkeeper for Portugal since Luiz Felipe Scolari took charge in 2003 but he has endured a mixed season at Real Betis. The 32-year-old moved to Spain last summer but a dip in form saw him briefly lose his place in the Betis side. There has now been speculation that he could make way for rival Quim in Portugal's Group A opener against Turkey on Saturday. In training this week Ricardo has more often than not been playing with the reserve side while Quim has been in the first team. Asked if he thought he deserved his place in the team, Ricardo told reporters: "There are two goals involved: one for me and one for Quim. "At Sevilla, I missed four matches because of injury and six which were the decision of the coach. "It is a little disappointing but it still remains an enriching experience. "What I am experiencing with all the criticism is not hard to live through. There are lots of good things to live for."
