Burnley have admitted they are interested in signing striker Derek Riordan from Celtic.
The Clarets were eager to land Riordan in the January transfer window but Celtic rejected a bid for the 25-year-old.
However, Owen Coyle could now be ready to make a fresh move for the forward who has had limited opportunities to impress at Parkhead.
Leeds United are also understood to be keen on Riordan but Burnley have insisted they will not rush into anything.
Operational director Brendan Flood told the Lancashire Telegraph: "He is definitely of interest.
"It's exciting. There are people who want to come to Burnley and we want to get the best players.
"But Owen doesn't want to make decisions, necessarily, that will keep the newspapers selling.
"He is better making the right decision for the team, and he is being very selective."
