Southend have confirmed that they are in discussions with Wolves over a proposed move for Charlie Mulgrew.
The full-back spent three months on loan at Roots Hall during the 2007/08 season, helping the Shrimpers secure a League One play-off spot.
Paul Brush, Southend's assistant manager, was impressed by the Scotland Under 21 international during his time at the club and confirmed that the youngster tops their summer wish-list.
"Charlie is on our list and we have had a conversation with Wolves," Brush told the club's official website.
"Their chief executive has been away but we liked the progress that Charlie had made with us and he was comfortable being here.
"We are hoping that we can push that one because he is the type of player that we want to bring to this club.
"The ball is in Wolves' court at the moment and we are waiting to hear back."
