Finnish striker leaves relegated Blues

Mikael Forssell has been snapped up by Bundesliga side Hannover on a free transfer. The striker had spent the last five seasons with Birmingham, but after the Blues lost their Premier League status in May he has decided to move on. His career has been plagued by injuries since he burst onto the scene as teenager at Chelsea, but he will hoping to put those problems behind him once he arrives in Germany. The Finland international has penned a three-year contract at AWD Arena and is looking forward to his second spell in the German top flight, having briefly been on loan at Borussia Monchengladbach in 2003. "I am looking forward to playing for Hannover and in the Bundesliga," he said. Hannover's sporting director Christian Hochstatter is also delighted to have secured the services of the talented front man. "We are very happy that we could persuade Mikael to join Hannover," he told the club's official website.
