Teenage star pens new deal

Dan Smith has signed a one-year contract extension with Championship side Plymouth. The teenager made the breakthrough into the first-team fold towards the end of the 2007/08 season and has seen his hard work rewarded with a new deal. He made his debut as a substitute away at Burnley in January, before making his Home Park bow in the Pilgrims' final home game of the season against Blackpool. The winger has been with the club since joining their youth academy as a 10-year-old and Paul Sturrock is hoping that the youngster will continue his impressive progression next season. "I am delighted to have Dan on board for next season," Plymouth's manager told the club's official website. "He is a young player who has the potential to be a real force for us, and it is now up to him to show me he merits a place in my team."
