Bristol City have released five players following their failure to reach the Premier League. The Robins lost 1-0 to Hull in the Championship play-off final at Wembley on Saturday as a place in the top flight proved just beyond reach. The five players to be released include top scorer Darren Byfield and fellow striker Enoch Showunmi, midfielder Alex Russell and defender Martin Slocombe. Centre-back Tamas Vasko is the final player to leave following the conclusion of his loan deal from Ujpest and Johnson - who is looking to build a squad capable of securing automatic promotion - has thanked the quintet for their contribution. "We thank the five players who are leaving the club for their professionalism and wish all of them the best for the future," Johnson told City's official website. Meanwhile, goalkeepers Chris Weale and Stephen Henderson, winger Scott Murray and defenders Richard Keogh and Jordan Walker have been offered new contracts.
