Burnley will not be signing Andrew Cole after the striker failed to agree terms with the Championship outfit.
The former Manchester United and England forward enjoyed a successful three-month loan spell with the Clarets from Sunderland and had expressed a desire to join them on a permanent basis.
But, following his release from Sunderland, Cole will not be returning to Turf Moor.
"We loved working with him and I think he loved it at the football club, but he had a decision to make and he's made it, which he is within his rights to do," Clarets boss Owen Coyle said.
"The bottom line is the deal is not suitable to him."
