Blackpool boss clears out squad ahead of new season

Blackpool have released 11 players as they look to make substantial changes ahead of the new season, but Simon Grayson is eager to hold onto Claus Jorgensen and Andy Morrell. Keigan Parker, Michael Jackson, John Hills, Paul Tierney, Phil Doughty, Andy Welsh, Marcus Bean, Lewis Edge, Michael Flynn, Matt Lawlor and Phil Marsh are all on the lookout for new clubs as Grayson aims to improve his squad after finishing just two points clear of relegation. "It is a very difficult thing to do," he told the Blackpool Gazzette. "No manager enjoys it. "It's never easy, but these decisions have to be made and we have to try and bring in better players and try and keep progressing as a football club. "We decided that because we are in the Championship we are going to try and get a better quality player and that is not disrespectful to the players we have released. "If we'd gone down then those players would probably have still been here. It's getting the right balance of progressing the football club and trying to freshen things up." However, midfielder Jorgensen has been offered a new contract and striker Morrell has been told he does have a future at Bloomfield Road. "Claus has been offered a new deal," he told the club's official website. "We're in discussions with Andy Morrell about certain situations with him. "With Andy, it's a little bit different to Claus. Claus has had an offer made to him - Andy's we're just having informal chats about what his thoughts are for next year and our thoughts for him."
