West Brom chairman confirms contract negotiations continue

West Bromwich Albion chairman Jeremy Peace has confirmed talks over a new contract are 'ongoing' with leading scorer Kevin Phillips. The 34-year-old striker has scored 24 goals so far this season and is out of contract in the summer. Phillips has averaged more than a goal every two games since arriving at The Hawthorns two years ago from local rivals Aston Villa.

Ongoing

Reports had suggested that talks were on hold after Phillips' agent said priorities lay with West Brom's promotion challenge. But Peace has revealed that Albion are keen to retain the services of the former Sunderland and Southampton striker. "Negotiations with Kevin Phillips and his representatives are ongoing and everyone hopes that they will reach a successful conclusion," said Peace.
