Hull City striker Michael Bridges has turned down a loan move to League One strugglers Crewe Alexandra.
Bridges has recently returned from a loan stint in Australia with Sydney FC, but has not played for Hull since September.
He scored against Crewe in the Carling Cup earlier this season and Steve Holland was keen to take the 29-year-old to Gresty Road.
But the Railwaymen's first-team coach has confirmed that Bridges was not willing to drop down below Championship level.
"We agreed a short-term deal with Hull to take Michael on loan, but the player does not wish to drop out of the Championship at the moment," Holland told the club's official website.
"He let us know of his decision last night and of course we are disappointed that he doesn't want to come here on a short-term basis.
"He is certainly not a player we could afford on a permanent basis, but the board were willing to pay his wages in full on a temporary basis.
"We could only afford that for a temporary basis, but it was down to him and our enquiry was unsuccessful."
