Carlisle United manager John Ward admits he has considered bringing Barnsley defender Paul Reid back to the club.
Ward is keen to add a loan signing to his back-line and has been linked with a move for Reid, who started his career at Carlisle.
A bid to re-sign Richard Keogh from Bristol City following his loan spell at Brunton Park has fallen through, with Ward now assessing his options.
"I'm aware of Paul and we have talked about him, but that's as far as it's gone," Ward told the News & Star.
"We didn't try and get him here permanently because Keogh was our priority. I don't think that's going to happen now, so we've got to look elsewhere.
"I'm aware of Paul Reid, as you would expect me to be as manager of a football club, but he belongs to another club and it's not right that I sit here and discuss him when he's playing for Barnsley."
Reid, who left Carlisle for Rangers in 2000, has made just four first-team appearances for Barnsley this season.
