Plymouth manager Paul Sturrock has completed the signing of defender Jim Paterson from Motherwell for an undisclosed fee.

The left-back leaves Fir Park after four years at the club, during which time he made over more than 100 appearances, scoring five goals.

Paterson has signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with Plymouth that will see him stay with the club until the summer of 2011.

Before his time at Motherwell, the 28-year-old had six years at Dundee United where he was handed his debut by then United boss Sturrock.
