Preston have beaten off stiff opposition to secure the services of Oldham defender Neal Trotman for £500,000.
The 20-year-old centre-half has attracted the attention of a host of clubs, but has chosen Deepdale as his preferred destination just before the end of the January window.
Trotman was absent from the Latics' trip to Carlisle on Tuesday night increasing speculation of an imminent exit from Boundary Park.
In addition to the initial transfer fee, Athletic will also receive further payments based on appearances.
Trotman has signed with all the paperwork completed in time for the youngster to be available for North End's tough trip to Norwich on Saturday.
Earlier this week, Oldham confirmed that Preston's Championship rivals Plymouth Argyle had made an undisclosed bid for Trotman.
