Alan Irvine is optimistic that Michael Hart will be a Preston North End player before the close of the transfer window.
The Aberdeen full-back has already agreed a pre-contract to move to Deepdale at the end of the season.
But Preston boss Irvine is hoping to reach a compensation fee with Aberdeen in order to push through the deal before 31st January.
Another issue is Hart's fitness, with the 27-year-old having been out of action since Boxing Day due to a hip injury.
Hart will undergo an MRI on the problem this week and Irvine then expects to be able to finalise a deal.
"Our physio Steve Kemp feels Michael looks a lot better than we first feared," Irvine told the Lancashire Evening Post.
"So, assuming the MRI scan doesn't throw anything else up, we are hopeful a deal can be concluded within the next week or so."
