Leeds United have not given up hope of signing Walsall defender Daniel Fox from under the noses of Colchester.
Colchester have had an offer accepted for the left-back but Leeds boss Dennis Wise is currently monitoring the situation.
The Whites had earlier had an offer for Fox rejected by the Saddlers, who is out of contract at the end of the season.
Wise told Leeds' official website: "We put in an offer [for Fox] and they didn't accept - I think they've accepted an offer from Colchester so we'll see what happens.
"We'll stay tight, get on with what we want to do and maybe there's still a possibility we may get him."
However, Colchester manager Geraint Williams has expressed his hope that he can complete the signing of Fox.
"Daniel came down and we showed him around the new stadium, we spoke to his representatives and they have gone away to think about the offer," he said.
"If possible, we would like to conclude the deal soon."
Wise is also keeping tabs on Bolton's Lubo Michalik who enjoyed a spell on loan at Elland Road last season.
He added: "Lubo is a player everyone knows about. I'm keeping an eye on the Bolton situation and when the time is right hopefully they might allow us to negotiate something to bring him here.
"At the moment, though, he's very much involved at Bolton."
