Left-back leaves Palace on loan

Crystal Palace defender Jeff Hughes has joined Peterborough on loan until January. Posh have been searching for a left-back and were close to landing Wycombe's Tom Williams earlier in the week. They have instead brought in Hughes on a short-term deal spanning until New Year's Day, and manager Darren Ferguson is thrilled with his capture. He said: "We have been looking for left-sided players and it was well publicised about Tom Williams, but he wanted a permanent deal and we were only offering a loan. "We are fortunate to get Jeff as he has been playing in the Championship and went for £300,000 from Lincoln. "He is a left-back who can play as a winger and is a good addition to the squad. He gives us good height and I am delighted to get him in."

Craig blow

Palace boss Neil Warnock will be short of options at left-back for the next few weeks, as Tony Craig has been forced to go under the knife in a bid to cure his shoulder problem. Craig has been struggling with his shoulder since the goalless draw against Scunthorpe earlier this month. He is expected to spend the next three weeks rehabilitating before he can resume training.
