Baggies striker turns down loan move

West Bromwich Albion striker John Hartson has turned down a loan move to Chester City. The Welsh striker has not played for The Baggies this season and has recently spent a month on loan at Norwich City. Chester had an approach accepted by West Brom, but Hartson is not keen to drop down to League Two level. "West Bromwich Albion had agreed to John Hartson joining us on loan with a view to us signing him permanently in the January transfer window, but the player won't drop down to play in League Two," Chester chief executive Bob Gray told the Wrexham and Flintshire Evening Leader. "John Hartson feels that he needs to play at a higher level, but he was pleased to hear of Chester's interest and he spoke to our manager, Bobby Williamson, who is a good friend of Hartson. "Bobby Williamson is still attempting to entice Hartson to Chester. "The move underlines the ambition of our chairman, Stephen Vaughan, and the directors at Chester City Football Club."
