Roy Keane concedes Graham Kavanagh could be heading back to Sheffield Wednesday for a second spell.
The Sunderland midfielder enjoyed a productive sojourn at Hillsborough earlier in the season and quickly impressed the Owls faithful and their manager Brian Laws.
Wednesday were eager to extend the experienced schemer's stay in the Championship, only for Kavanagh to be recalled by Keane.
However, upon his return to the North East, despite a congested treatment room at the Stadium of Light, Kavanagh found himself surplus to requirements.
And now Keane has suggested Kavanagh could be on his way out of the club before too long.
Fair to player
He told the Sunderland Echo: "Kav enjoyed his games at Sheffield Wednesday but there have been several other clubs in touch about him since.
"There has been more interest in Kav and I will probably sit down with him next week to talk it through. I also spoke to him last week about the situation.
"It's a difficult one because as much as I want to keep him I know he wants to play football, and Kav is not the only one in that situation here. As much as I have to look after the club, I have to be fair to the players."
