Mick McCarthy has admitted he tried to sell Jay Bothroyd over the summer.
The Wolves boss was angered by some of Bothroyd's antics in pre-season, such as when he gestured to the bench after scoring in a friendly against reading.
But the striker, who had to wait until last Saturday's clash with Charlton for his first start of the season, has impressed McCarthy with his recent attitude.
Bothroyd produced another fine display against Cardiff in midweek and McCarthy has challenged him to maintain his form.
"I told Jay in no uncertain terms he could leave and tried to get him to go as far back as the Watford game," said McCarthy.
"I think he spoke to Hull and I gave him permission to talk to them.
"He didn't want to go, though, and knuckled down. Fair play to him, if he plays like he is, I can't leave him out."
