Sheffield Wednesday striker Francis Jeffers has not broken his ankle but is still facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The former Blackburn, Arsenal and Everton forward was stretchered off during Saturday's win at Stoke after a challenge with Ryan Shawcross.

An initial assessment of the one-time England international's ankle suggested a break, but those fears have been allayed with further scan results to determine the exact damage still awaited.

Disfigured

Owls boss Brian Laws told the club's official website: "Our initial feedback of the injury was that his ankle must have been broken because it was so badly disfigured, but we have since been told it isn't broken.

"We still expect that it's a serious injury, perhaps severe ligament damage, so it's still likely to keep him out for as long as if it were broken.

"But we will not know for certain until we get the results of the scan."
