Stoke City will be without defender Clint Hill for up to six weeks after an X-ray revealed he has a fractured rib.
Hill was substituted in the second-half of Saturday's win over Plymouth after suffering what appeared to be just a slight knock.
However Stoke boss Tony Pulis has revealed the extent of the injury and has admitted he was surprised by the results of the scan.
"The X-ray came as a bit of a shock to all of us," he told the Stoke Sentinel.
"We're being told he's out for three to six weeks. He's a loss because you always know what you're going to get from Clint, and he's also one to gee up those around him.
"We're already short of numbers at the back and this is a setback we could have done without."
