Bristol City striker Steve Brooker will undergo a second bout of surgery on his knee injury.
Brooker has been sidelined since April with the problem and had his first operation in May.
He visited the specialist on Monday, with Robins boss Gary Johnson expecting the player to require another operation.
Johnson has confirmed Brooker will have surgery later this week, but feels there is now light at the end of the tunnel.
"It's bad news, but I see it as good news that Brooks has a date and the surgery can take place pretty quickly," Johnson told the club's official website.
"The sooner he has the operation, the quicker he can get everything sorted."
