Grant McCann is determined to force his way into the Barnsley team to boost his chances with Northern Ireland.
The midfielder has yet to start in the Championship this season, and has made just two appearances as a substitute.
He understands manager Simon Davey's reasons for keeping him on the bench, but is 'desperate' to play a more prominent role.
McCann also feels the only way he can become a regular in the Northern Ireland team is by playing consistently at club level.
"I know I have to play for Barnsley and play well in the Championship if I'm going to get the nod at international level and I'm more determined than ever to do that," McCann told the club's official website.
"I have spoken with Simon and explained that I'm desperate to play more than a few minutes here and there.
"I have just been a little unlucky because the midfield has done well and we have picked up some good results.
"I know my chance will come and I'm determined to make it count."
