Midfielder moves to Scotland

St Mirren have signed Chris Birchall on loan from Coventry. Birchall, who represented Trinidad and Tobago at the World Cup last year, has joined the Scottish Premier League side until January. Skysports.com revealed on Thursday that Birchall was expected to move to St Mirren and the deal has now been completed. The 23-year-old was keen to secure first-team football and St Mirren manager Gus MacPherson was happy to offer the midfielder the opportunity as he looks to bolster his squad ahead of Friday's transfer deadline. Birchall joined Coventry from Port Vale for £300,000 last summer, but he is being allowed to leave the Ricoh Arena by manager Iain Dowie after 28 league appearances for the Sky Blues.
